The youth life vest seems to be the hardest vest for parents to make up their minds on, when buying life vests for their kids. They are of the perception that they will grow out of
it much too fast, leaving them with the idea that they are wasting their money on such a short term use of a youth life jacket.
This neoprene youth PFD has a weight rating of 50 to 90 lbs but on my
experience, the youth life vest will fit comfortably on a 110 lb, slender built person. For example, some found that it is a prefect fit as a life vest for petite women.
If the individual is stocky, that's a different story, they may need a teen or an adult XS life vest depending on their height. Too large of a life
jacket is far too dangerous for both adult and child, which can happen when you take a fall wearing a life preserver for a teen that is too large. Too large of a life vest for your youth can ride up on you holding
your head under the water (I have witnessed this happen more than once).
In my opinion a little too small is much safer than too big. I also recommend the youth neoprene life vest since it is softer and will
fit more comfortable to the contour of the body. Neoprene youth vests will also keep you warmer when wet.
