The youth vest seems to be the hardest vest for parents to make up their minds on, when buying life vests for their youngsters. They are of the perception that they will grow out of it
much too fast, leaving them with the idea that they are wasting their money on such a short term investment.
This neoprene vest has a weight rating of 50 to 90 lbs but on my experience, the youth vest will
fit comfortably on a 110 lb., slender built person. Now if the individual is stocky, that's a different story, they may need a teen or an adult XS life vest depending on their height. Too large of a life jacket
is far too dangerous for both adult and child, what can happen when you take a fall wearing an oversized life preserver, is it can ride up on you holding your head under the water (I have witnessed this happen more
than once).
In my opinion a little too small is much safer than too big. I also recommend the neoprene life vest, it is softer and will therefore fit more comfortable to the contour of the body. Due to the
neoprene construction it will also keep you warmer when wet.
